چکیده

An important question in information processing is the extent to which neural .ring patterns remain consistent while processing representations. Transient changes in representational consistency can provide clues to the dynamics of neural processing. We present a generalized framework for measuring the consistency of a neuronal representation that does not require explicit knowledge of the parameters encoded by the ensemble. It requires only neuronal ensembles and a training set of neuronal activity that samples behavioral parameters equally. This will be useful in structures where the behavioral parameters signalled by the neural activity are controversial or unknown. c © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Implementation of a fast method for measuring psychophysical tuning curves.

OBJECTIVE To implement a fast method for measuring psychophysical tuning curves (PTCs) for use in clinical applications, such as assessment of frequency selectivity and detection of dead regions in the cochlea. DESIGN The method is based on that described by Sek et al (2005) and has been implemented in software that can be run on a PC with a good-quality sound card. In addition to the main na...

Measurements of neuronal color tuning: Procedures, pitfalls, and alternatives.

Measuring the color tuning of visual neurons is important for understanding the neural basis of vision, but it is challenging because of the inherently three-dimensional nature of color. Color tuning cannot be represented by a one-dimensional curve, and measuring three-dimensional tuning curves is difficult. One approach to addressing this challenge is to analyze neuronal color tuning data thro...

Receiver operating characteristic ( ROC ) and other curves measuring discriminability of classifiers ’ ensemble for asthma

Purpose: The aim was studying the discriminability by ROC curves and gain charts for simple fixed combining of constituent classifiers, for asthma severity diagnosis, and also for bagging and boosting. Material and methods: ROC shows a performance over a range of relative costs and probabilities a priori. Area under ROC curve (AUC) is the measure of separability of two probability distributions...

Measuring midline dose without build-up cap for patients with brain tumor undergoing 15MV external radiotherapy by using EBT3 Gafchromic film

Introduction: The Purpose of this study has been measuring midline dose for the patients undergoing brain radiotherapy without any need to build-up cap. Materials and Methods: The study was performed on 28 patients with brain tumor undergoing 15 MV radiotherapy by a Siemens LINAC. To estimate the midline dose, the entrance and exit doses were calculated b...

Measuring distributed properties of neural representations beyond the decoding of local variables — implications for cognition

Neural representations are distributed. This means that more information can be gleaned from neural ensembles than from single cells. Modern recording technology allows the simultaneous recording of large neural ensembles (of more than 100 cells simultaneously) from awake behaving animals. Historically, the principal means of analyzing representations encoded within large ensembles has been to ...
